Others, however, take on a vibe, a flavor or a look that makes them seem like an international franchise. MANILA - It all started peacefully.
People were starting to converge along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City early Monday morning, a few hours before the State of the Nation Address. Street vendors were selling kwek-kwek (quail eggs), bottled water and other drinks while kids were roaming around the car-free Commonwealth Avenue looking for coins dropped by passing vehicles the previous days.

Following the unveiling of the new Department of Tourism (DOT) slogan, "It's More Fun in the Philippines," on January 6, Friday, the hashtag #ItsMoreFunInThePhilippines became the top trending topic worldwide. The slogan was created by advertising firm BBDO Guerrero|Proximity Philippines and according to DOT Secretary Ramon "Mon" Jimenez Jr., the slogan answers the fundamental question, 'Why the Philippines?'."
MANILA, Philippines—Cash remittances reached a five-month high in May as overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) continued to send more money home to their families, data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) showed. The BSP on Monday said cash remittances reached P1.867 billion in May, up 5.3 percent over the same month last year. This was the highest level since December 2012 when OFWs sent home $1.975 billion in cash to the Philippines.
Many of us don't do physical labor for a living. Instead we work in offices and many of us automatically assume that cubicle jobs are harmless to our health.

The nationwide non-commissioned survey conducted last March 19-22 found that 74 percent of Filipinos are satisfied with how democracy runs in the country, surpassing the previous record-high of 70 percent in September 1992 and July 1998. |
